About South Creek HR

South Creek HR was founded on a simple belief: leaders do their best work when they feel supported, informed, and confident navigating people challenges.

I partner with organizations to help leaders solve real, day-to-day workplace challenges: from managing people effectively to navigating compliance, employee relations, and organizational change. At the heart of my work is a commitment to empowering leaders with the clarity, tools, and perspective they need to make thoughtful decisions and move forward with confidence.

My approach is practical and relationship-driven. I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all solutions. Instead, I focus on understanding how a business actually operates and helping leaders address challenges in a way that is compliant, grounded, and aligned with their goals.

South Creek HR primarily serves small to mid-sized organizations across Minnesota and Iowa, with virtual support available more broadly.

About Crystal

I’m Crystal Hanson, Founder and Principal Consultant of South Creek HR.

I hold a Master’s degree in Human Resources and Industrial Relations from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities. My professional experience spans Fortune 500 organizations as well as partnering with small and mid-sized businesses across the Midwest. Throughout that time, I’ve worked closely with owners, executives, managers, and internal HR teams as they navigate complex business and people challenges.

My career began in corporate HR with IBM and later 3M, where I spent the first decade of my career learning from exceptional leaders and building the foundation that continues to shape my work today. While I valued those opportunities, I also recognized that many small and mid-sized businesses faced many of the same people challenges as large organizations, but without the internal HR resources to help them navigate them. I founded South Creek HR in 2016 to help bridge that gap.

Since then, I’ve partnered with organizations across a variety of industries, providing practical, hands-on HR support for leaders who value straightforward guidance, a trusted partner, and solutions that fit their business. South Creek HR has grown through long-standing client relationships built on trust, transparency, and results.

Living on a farm in rural Minnesota, where my family is actively involved in agriculture, has also given me a firsthand understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities facing agricultural and family-owned businesses. That perspective gives me a practical understanding of the environments in which many of my clients operate.

My work is grounded in the belief that leadership is learned through practice. A coaching mindset has always guided how I support leaders, emphasizing reflection, feedback, and intentional skill-building. It influences how I ask questions, listen beneath the surface, and balance accountability with empathy to help leaders build confidence and capability over time.

That passion for developing others extends beyond my consulting work. I also serve as an adjunct faculty member at Minnesota State University, where I teach Human Resource Management. Outside the classroom, I coach high school track & field in the spring and run an elementary cross country program in the fall. Whether I’m coaching a leader through a difficult conversation, teaching future professionals, or mentoring young athletes, my goal is the same: to help people grow with confidence and build stronger teams along the way.
